SIMMONS SWAPPED FOR HOYT 8 April 1928 On the eve of opening day, the St. Louis Bubonic Plague traded pitcher Waite Hoyt, their 3rd round pick, to the Sahara Jihad in exchange for outfielder Al Simmons, the Jihad's 5th round pick. The move bolsters an already strong Jihad pitching chance, while leaving St. Louis with more punch, but will strongly affect an anemic pitching staff.
