WEEK 1 HORNSBY PLAYER OF THE WEEK Rogers Hornsby of Pawtucket was announced as the Player of the Week. Hornsby batted .481 for the week (13-27), hit 5 home runs and drove in 9. He had a slugging pct. of 1.037 and an on-base average of .548. In addition he stole 3 bases. Chris Dean HOGSETT, HARTNETT HURT Hershey Squirts rookie pitcher Chief Hogsett will be out for 8 days due to an arm injury. Also, Mississippi catcher Gabby Hartnett will miss the next two weeks due to a leg injury. Replacement Clyde Sukeforth has been playing well in his absense, including a 5-5 showing against North Dallas. PAWTUCKET ON TOP AFTER ONE WEEK The Pawtucket Flying Dutchman, who finished last season with a brave run at the eventual division champions from Sahara, started off the season with a 5-2 record and sole possesion of first place in the Northeastern Division. Led by Rogers Hornsby and Bill Cissell, the Dutchmen have also been getting solid pitching by George Uhle, Eddie Wells and Ray Kolp. Yes it is early, but Pawtucket looks ready for their turn at the top.
