MUSKEGON THUNDER DAWGS 1941 DBS CHAMPIONS The Muskegon Thunder Dawgs Inaugural season was a pleasant surprise to Manager Clyde "Sukey" Sukeforth, he started out the season with a few too many losses, and the team sunk into third place in the Southeast division. After a meeting between the GM and Clyde, he was given one last chance to turn the team around, and boy did he quickly turn the team around. Muskegon contended for first place in the division for the rest of the season. After a late season collapse of North Dallas, who Muskegon trailed for most of the year, coupled with an 8 game win streak by Muskegon , the Dawgs went up by four games in the division and never looked back. The team moved into their new digs Ebbets Field just before the season started, and home cooking was never so good, as the team played .750 ball at home, and the team as a whole hit over .290 during the regular season. Muskegon had a real solid hitting lineup going into the season, past draft picks had given Muskegon a great hitting lineup, but their pitching was a little suspect. They helped themselves by picking up a couple of key free agents in the off season, pitcher Art Johnson & outfielder Estel Crabtree. Then there was the mid season trade for Starting Pitcher Sid Hudson. These guys really helped get the team over the top.The World Series appearance was a trip well deserved for the players & coaches, and playing Harlem the team with more DBS championships then any other team in DBS history was a thrill in itself.
