PLAYER of the MONTH The Player for the Month of April 1941 is the Short Stop for the St. Louis Bubonic Plague. Cecil led the league in Batting Average (.416), Hits (42) and Total Bases (68) in the first month of the year. St. Louis played 21 games during April and Cecil had at least one hit in 18 of those games, including a 14 game hit streak. Cecil also had 14 multiple hit games, including two four hit games and had an extra base hit in 12 games. He batted .416 (42-101) with a slugging percentage of .673 and an on base percentage of .449. He finished with seven doubles, two triples and five home runs, with 21 runs scored and 15 RBI. Other Player of the Month Candidates: LF Roy Cullenbine of North Dallas with a batting average of .363 (33-91) with a slugging percentage of .637 with six home runs, three doubles and two triples. Roy also scored 20 runs and knocked in 14 runs while collecting 19 walks. 1B Dolph Camilli of Muskegon who batted .361 with a league leading slugging percentage of .783 and a league leading 10 home runs. He finished with one double, two triples, 14 runs scored and 25 RBI. LF Charlie (King Kong) Keller of Harlem who batted .347 (33-95) with a slugging percentage of .589 with 19 runs scored and 23 RBI and two stolen bases. Charlie collected Five doubles and six home runs. The Pitcher of the Month of April 1941 is the Starting Pitcher Tiny Bonham of the Montgomery Burns. Tiny was consistent during the month of April compiling a 3-1 record and an ERA of 1.74 allowing only six earned runs in 31 innings of work. Tiny pitched at least seven innings of work in each of his four starts during the month with a complete game in his only loss. During his 31 innings of work Tiny gave up only 23 hits, struck out 12 opponents, gave up 13 walks and allowed only one home run. Tiny also helped himself at the plate batting .286 (4-14) with a double and an RBI. Other Pitcher of the Month Candidates: RP Vern Olsen of Freemont who compiled a record of 1-0 with one save and an ERA of 0.41 allowing only one earned run in 22 innings of work. Vern appeared in 17 games and struck out thirteen opponents and allowed only 17 hits. RP Bob Klinger of St. Louis who was 3-1 on the month with one save in 12 appearances. Bob gave up only seven earned runs in 22.33 innings of work for an ERA of 2.82 with 15 strikeouts and allowed only 21 hits. SP Sid Hudson of Pawtucket, one of the only bright spots on the Dutchmen staff, who was 2-0 in April with an ERA of 2.36 in four starts with one complete game. Sid allowed only seven earned runs in 26.66 innings with 22 strikeouts while only giving up 24 hits.
