Biography
He was a career .284 hitter and was the National League's starting shortstop in the 1933 All-Star Game.

After breaking in with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Bartell was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies. He later played with the Giants, Chicago Cubs and Detroit Tigers, carrying his fiery style with him.

He helped the Giants win the National League pennant twice, in 1936-37. In the 1936 World Series, which was won by the Yankees, 4 games to 2, Bartell hit .381 and led the Giants with five runs batted in.
