Biography

Bryant was 23 when he debuted with the Chicago Cubs in 1935. He pitched more than 500 innings in the majors before his career was cut short by an arm injury. His best season came in 1938 with the Cubs when he finished 19-11 in 270.1 innings with a 3.10 ERA. He started 30 games that season with 17 complete games and 3 shutouts. He led the league with 135 strikeouts that season, but also led the league with 125 walks. He also pitched in the 1938 World Series and was the losing pitcher in game three. He was the manager of Newark in 1944 and later served as a coach in the Dodgers' minor league system. In 1961, he became the third base coach for the Dodgers. In 1967, he joined the Indians as a pitching coach and later served as a minor league manager in the Cleveland organization.
