Biography
Mr. Doak, a right hander, pitched for seventeen years in the National League. He broke in with Cincinnati in 1912 and went to St. Louis the next year. In 1924 he was sold to Brooklyn.

He was out of baseball for two years, but returned to Brooklyn for the 1927 and 1928 seasons. Mr. Doak finished his major league career with St. Louis in 1929. His best years were 1920, when he won 20 games and lost 12, and 1914, when he won 19 and lost 6. He had a lifetime record of 169 won and 157 lost.

Bill Doak quit baseball at the close of the 1924 season to go into business in Bradenton. Despite the "sentimental appeals" of his former teammates and Manager Wilbert Robinson and the offer of a $15,000 contract, he remained out of the game until 1927.

During spring training that year, he showed up at the Dodgers' camp and soon convinced Uncle Wilbert that his spitter was as effective as ever. That season he won 11 and lost 8.

In retirement, Doak operated a confectionary shop in Bradenton, Florida.
