Biography After Fothergill's career ended, he returned to Detroit where he played sandlot baseball and also worked at Ford Motor Company in Highland Park, Michigan. He was hired as the coach of the baseball team at Lawrence Institute of Technology in January of 1938, but suffered a stroke that March and died at the age of 39.
