Biography
Johnson joined the New York Yankees in 1943, but missed the next two seasons to serve in the United States Army during World War II, but after the war ended, he returned to baseball. He played in four World Series with the Yankees in 1943, 1947, 1949 and 1950.

He was selected to the All Star Team in 1947. He was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in 1951, and ended his baseball career two years later. He then went to work for theGraniteville Company as a shipping supervisor, and retired after almost 30 years of service.
