Biography
"Big Ed" Morris was a very promising pitching prospect in 1928. After a brief stint with the White Sox in 1922, he finally returned to the Major Leagues, this time with the White Sox. He won 19 games for the last place Red Sox in 1928, and in the next season won 14 games. He developed some arm trouble and had sub-par, but respectable, seasons in '30 and '31. In early March of 1932, some friends threw a going away party for him as he prepared to go to spring training. Prepared for a comeback, Morris was very excited about the upcoming season. However, the party got out of hand, and Morris got into an altercation with Joe White, a gas station attendant who was at the tavern where the party was held. White pulled a knife and stabbed Morris fatally. He was 31.
