SIMMONS HOMERS TWICE AS HARLEM WINS 6-3. FELLER STRIKES OUT 11.

Al Simmons homered twice as Harlem overcame an eleven strikeout performance by Bob Feller to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the World Series, beating St Louis 6-3.

St Louis needed a win desperately, and put their fate in the hands of Bob Feller. Feller, the nineteen-year old phenom, is coming off a 19-win season and his second season of well-over 200 strikeouts. He was going up against Cliff Melton, who struggled at times for the Knights this year.

St Louis got on the board first when Cecil Travis lead off the first with a double and scored to batters later on a Bill Dickey fly ball. The lead was short lived, as in the top half of the second inning, Al Simmons homered to left, his second homer of the series.

In the third inning, Ival Goodman added another solo home run off of Feller to give Harlem the 2-1 lead. The Knights added another run in the sixth, and St Louis matched it with a Bob Johnson home run in the bottom of the frame. But the ninth inning was the point where Harlem blew it open with 3 runs, including the second of the game by Al Simmons. The Plague went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth as Harlem won 6-3 and took a commanding 3-0 lead in the Series.
