    GEHRINGER'S BLAST COMPLETES HARLEM SWEEP

Charlie Gehringer’s three-run home run in the ninth off of Russ Bauers broke a 2-2 tie and handed the Harlem Knights their second consecutive DBS Championship as they swept the St Louis Plague in four games.

Starting pitchers Mel Harder and Larry French dueled for seven innings as both teams scored twice. Both pitchers repeatedly got in and out of jams, as each team was on a mission. For St Louis, it was to extend the season one more day. For Harlem, it was to end with another flag.

Charlie Gehringer’s two-out home run broke the spirits of the Plague faithful, who were hoping and praying for at least a hope at an amazing comeback, but it was not to be. Jumbo Brown, the Harlem pitcher who returned to the DBS after a 10 year lay-off to lead the league in saves, sent the Plague down 1-2-3 in the ninth to end it.

Al Simmons hit .667 with 3 home runs and 7 RBI to be named the Series MVP for the second straight year.
