HARLEM - Muskegon rallied for five runs in the 8th to overcome a 4-1 deficit to defeat the Harlem Knights, 6-4, to win the best-of-seven World Series in
5 games. The championship was Muskegon's first since the inaugural 1928 DBS season when the franchise was in Mississippi.
Harlem starter Bobo Newsom gave up a run n the first, but then settled down and was strong, striking out 7 in 5 innings. Harlem got to Bill Lee for four
runs in the first, and with Newsom and his successor Johnny Murphy rolling, it looked like the series was going to return to Muskegon for a sixth game.
Muskegon then began their rally in the 8th, capped with a bases-loaded double by Estel Crabtree to break the 4-4 die, and put the Dawgs up for good.
Thunder Dawg third baseman Stan Hack was named World Series MVP as he batted .444 with 5 extra-base hits, good for a .944 slugging percentage.
He also had 4 walks, a stolen base, and even got on base by being hit by a pitch. That is good for a .565 OBP.
