Mort Cooper threw a four-hit shutout as the Montgomery Burns defeated the Harlem Knights, 2-0, in Game 2 of the 1944 World Series, and take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.
Cooper was brilliant in the complete game victory, easily dispatching the Knights inning after inning. Ken Raffensberger was very effective for the Knights, allowing only one run in 7 innings, but wound up being the tough-luck loser. Montgomery broke the 0-0 deadlock in the fifth with a Jim Russell RBI double. They added an insurance run in the ninth when Micky Owen homered off of Sam Zoldak.
Including the regular season, the Knights have dropped 8 straight.
