FRENCH 3-HITS NORTH DALLAS; TIES SERIES

DALLAS, TX(AP): Larry French threw a three-hitter and Roy Johnson had four hits as the Harlem Knights defeated the North Dallas Forty 5-0 in Game 2 of the 1933 World Series, tying the series at one game apiece.

French (1-0) got off to a rough start, allowing two base runners in the opening inning before getting out of the jam, and then was in control the rest of the way. Harlem struck early when Roy Johnson, one of four rookies to start the game for the Knights, singled home Chuck Klein in the second inning.

The Knights got to Hal Schumacher (0-1) again in the fifth frame, When Joe Cronin lead off with a single, followed by a double by Johnson. With none out, Buddy Myer punched a single through the drawn-in infield, scoring both Johnson and Myer, giving the Knights a 3-0 lead. In the sixth inning, Chuck Klein had a one-out single, which brought Bill Dickey to the plate. Dickey hit what should have been a double-play grounder to short, but shortstop Luke Appling booted it, for his second of three errors on the afternoon. Cronin got out on a slow roller to second, bringing Johnson back to the plate with runners on second and third. Johnson laced a 1-2 Schumacher offering into the left-field corner, scoring both Dickey and Klein, giving the Knights a 5-0 lead.

It was all French after that, as he finished his masterpiece with a 3-hit shutout. French is no stranger to post-season heroics, having won 2 games as a rookie in the 1931 Series, including Game 7 over Pat Malone and Montgomery.

The series will shift to Harlem for game 3, as the Knights will have Fred Fitzsimmons (10-7) and the 40 will counter with Ed Wells (14-6).
