    FOUR-RUN FOURTH FUELS FORTY

HARLEM, NY(AP): North Dallas scored four times in the fourth inning as the Forty defeated the Harlem Knights, 6-4, putting the North Dallas club one win away from their first DBS championship.

North Dallas struck first when Babe Ruth singled home Luke Appling in the first. Appling had reached on a throwing error by Joe Cronin. Harlem starter Larry French (1-1) had trouble with his velocity all day, as he got into serious trouble in the fourth.

With the game tied 1-1, French walked Mel Ott. French then surrendered a two-run home run to Babe Ruth, giving the Forty a 3-1 lead. French then gave up a single to Freddie Lindstrom. Lindstrom was forced at second on a botched sacrifice attempt by Bill Terry, and it appeared French might be out of trouble when he got Charlie Gehringer to play to center. However, third baseman Billy Werber singled, and then pitcher Bill Swift doubled, scoring both Terry and Werber. North Dallas was now up 5-1.

North Dallas added another run when Rick Ferrell singled home Billy Werber in the seventh. However, Harlem was not going down without a fight. Chuck Klein homered with one out in the seventh off of starter Bill Swift (1-0), and Hank Greenberg singled in Lefty O'Doul and Pinky Higgins in the 8th to close the gap to 6-4 and knock Swift out of the game. But rookie reliever Joe Heving stopped the bleeding, and got out of trouble in the ninth two record his first save of the series.

North Dallas heads back home for game 6, one win away from its first championship.
