NORTH DALLAS - Red is quickly beoming the favorite color of Pawtucket
residents.
Red Lucas scattered 10 hits and struck out 5 as
Pawtucket defeated North Dallas, 4-1, to take a 2-0
lead in the best-of seven World Series. Yesterday, Red
Ruffing threw five no-hit innings against the Forty.
Pawtucket took a 1-0 lead in the second when Lucas
himself drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring yesterday's
hero, Billy Rogell. Joe Medwick lead off the third
with a double, and he scored two batters later on Hal
Trosky's sacrifice fly. North Dallas scored in the
bottom of the frame on an RBI double by Charlie
Gehringer, but that was all of the scoring for the
Forty. From there, Lucas (1-0) and Forty starter Pete
Appleton (0-1) smoothly rode through the middle
innings unscathed.
In the top of the seventh, Dutchmen third baseman
Buddy Lewis greated reliever Monty Stratton with a
home run just fair down the right-field line.
Pawtucket added one more run in the ninth to salt away
the victory. Pawtucket only managed 5 hits, two from
Lewis, but scrapped their way to victory.
Game three will be Wednesday afternoon, when the
action moves to Pawtucket.
