HOLMES, DANNING LEAD MONTGOMERY TO 6-4 WIN

Tommy Holmes two-run triple in the bottom of the 7th broke a 4-4 tie as the Montgomery Burns defeated the Fremont Furtraders in Game One of the 1942 World Series.

Fremont took a 1-0 lead in the second, before the Burns roared back with three in the bottom of the frame . Mel Ott got the Furtraders back to within a run with a solo homer in the third, but the Burns got the run back on a Harry Danning home run in the 6th.

Fremont managed to tie up the game in the seventh when Buddy Blair hit a two-run home run off of Mort Cooper. Cooper (1-0) was picked up by his teammates in the bottom of the seventh. Holmes, fresh off an injury, got his third hit of the game, a two-run triple that gave the Burns a lead they did not relinquish. Surprise starter Lon Warneke was adequate in his start, but Bob Carpenter took the loss. Three Fremont errors lead to two unearned runs in the game.

The Burns got the win, but at the cost of Frank McCormick, who left the game in the first with an elbow injury. He will not be available the next 4 days.
