LOMBARDI, 40 ROUT FREMONT, 9-1
FREMONT - Ernie Lombardi had four hits, and North Dallas used a 5-run second inning to give the 40 a 9-1 victory in game
three of the World Series. Lombardi and company chased Fremont starter Jim Weaver, and Bob Swift scattered 6 hits over
nine innings in a game that was over very quickly. After a Lombardi RBI single gave North Dallas a 1-0 lead in the first,
Weaver surrendered 6 hits and a walk as North Dallas batted around in the second. Tony Cuccinello knocked in Babe Phelps
in the bottom of the second to cut the lead to 6-1, but Swift only allowed three hits the rest of the way, going the
distance. North Dallas added single runs in the 5th, 6th and 7th innings and pulled away. Game 4 is Wednesday afternoon,
with Fremont throwing Paul Derringer(0-1) and North Dallas going with Hal Schumacher (1-0). Word is that Johnny Marcum
will be pitching game 5, despite leaving Sunday’s game with an injury.
