NORTH DALLAS COMES FROM BEHIND TO TAKE 3-1 LEAD

FREMONT - North Dallas is one victory away from their third straight World Championship, coming back from a 6-4 defecit to beat Fremont, 8-6.

North Dallas got off to a fine start, with three consecutive home runs in the first inning by Charlie Gehringer, Mel Ott and Zeke Bonura. Fremont answered in a wild third inning with 5 runs. Leading 6-4, Fremont looked to starter Paul Derringer to hold on into the 7th, but North Dallas came up strong with 4 runs, knocking Derringer out of the game, and capped with a two-run home run by Hank Leiber that proved to be the distance.

Fremont pitcher Oral Hildebrand returned after missing the last two weeks with an injury, but the injury bug has bitten the Furtraders again, maybe fatally this time as star outfielder Earl Averill was lost for the season after pulling up lame in the third inning. The series continues Thursday in Fremont, with North Dallas 40 ace Red Ruffing squaring off against Fremont's Johnny Marcum.
